Key Care Requirements
Light:
Prefers bright, indirect light (e.g., near a window with sheer curtains) to keep variegation crisp. Direct, harsh sunlight can burn the leaves.
Watering:
Water when the top 1–2 inches of soil are dry. They prefer to be kept consistently moist but not soggy, as they are susceptible to root rot.
Humidity & Temperature:
Thrives in temperatures between 65–85°F (18–29°C). While it can handle average household humidity, it appreciates higher humidity to keep foliage healthy.
Soil & Potting:
Use a loose, airy, well-draining substrate rich in organic material (e.g., sphagnum moss, coco coir, orchid bark).
Fertilizer:
Feed monthly during the growing season (spring and summer) with a balanced, diluted fertilizer.
Variegated-Specific Tips:
Variegated forms, having less chlorophyll, grow slower and are more susceptible to stress. They may need slightly less light than fully green counterparts to prevent burning, but enough to maintain the variegation. They are also more sensitive to fertilizer, so it is better to under-fertilize than over-fertilize.
